Harvey Fire Department provides a Junior Firefighter Program for students in grades 11 and 12 that reside in our coverage area. The program was started in 2012 and has been very successful. The program provides training and education on basic firefighting skills and familiarizes Junior Members with our department, tools, apparatus and procedures. The goal of the program is to find potential recruits for our regular membership. Regular members must be 18 years or older.
The Juniors are sometimes able to attend larger training events such as mock structure fires or auto extrication scenarios. Many of our Juniors have participated in the bi-annual P.A.R.T.Y. Program held in our community. This is a mock accident presented to younger students in partnership with ANB, RCMP, Coroner’s Office, local Hospital staff and the Fire Department.
Junior members are recognized for their volunteer hours and presented with a certificate at the annual awards banquet. For safety and liability reasons, HVFD junior members are not allowed to attend calls.
